ADOBE PHOTOSHOP REVIEW: One thing that hasn’t changed in a long time is the fact that Photoshop is still considered one of the crown jewels in Adobe’s lineup of business and graphics-related software. That said, it’s also not Adobe’s most popular program. That honor goes to Illustrator, which you know from our reviews here. So what can we say about Photoshop right now? Well, in many ways it’s exactly the same program as I’ve used over the years from version 5 to Photoshop CC 2016. It’s slow, you have to open your files into Photoshop if you want any sort of performance improvement, and its image quality is pretty good, all things considered. Unlike many programs, Photoshop will preserve color and grayscale data in images that are imported from Adobe Camera Raw. I also like the way that Photoshop’s functionality can be expanded via plugins. In the past, you have to use something like After Effects to add animation to a video clip in an image. Now, you can do that easily using Photoshop’s native ability to animate a video clip. And while I do like to use Lightroom for speed and to handle RAW files, when I edit RAW files I usually use Photoshop due to its much richer tool set. So for the Photoshop user looking to get some performance, it will be exactly the same program—just with various performance and other enhancements. You’ll find everything from easy-to-use, very powerful tools like the Liquify tool (which you’ll find under Filter>Blur) to the ability to add real-time 3D effects such as the 3D Gallery (under Filters>3D).
