        It didn’t cross my mind (until I got home from work) that I could do simple wreath embellishment using a dowel punch and yards and yards of twine. Truth be told, I was a bit shocked at the easy, forgiving, and yet imaginative result. If you’re like me, maybe you’ll be eager to try this project.

        First some details you’ll need to make your project successful:

        A plastic wreath form,

        A small piece of colorful ribbon or fine twine (I used hemp twine and a garden-green ribbon tie),

        A dowel punch, and

        The simple wooden dowel from your house, found at your local hardware store.

        Cut your twine in half. I chose floral as my main design element, and ended up using the brown and two greens for my accents.

        Step 1: Insert the dowel from the top of the wreath into the wood. Position the dowel at the center of the top of the wreath, if it won’t fit, adjust the top right or left.

        Step 2: Start wrapping your twine around the dowel; leave enough room so you don’t wrap over the front of your wreath form. Also make sure to wrap the entire dowel, not just a portion. You don’t need a lot, but just enough to cover the top, the part that will be visible from the front.

        Step 3: Wrap your twine until the “collar” of your wreath is complete. There might be two sizes of dowels in your wreath form, go with the smaller one.

        Keep winding your twine until you finish one section of your wreath. The next step is optional, you can choose either to keep going with the dark green to the end or leave it until you finish the wreath.

        Gently pull and twist your twine until the twine holds secure. If you keep going in the dark green, when you are finished the extra green will hang down. Obviously, the first option provides a more finished look.

        Step 4: To finish the project, pull the excess twine up. There might be a bit of left over, tidy it up by pulling the tie from the bottom of your wreath, where it meets the top. I strung the rope through the loop and tied it at the back of the wreath.
