Photoshop CS is an industry standard among professionals for the export of images and editing of them. It is priced at more than $2000 a license and is clearly a commercial product with no Free or Open Source version available.
The key divide with Photoshop is between people who want to fix images they’ve captured on a smartphone or with their DSLR camera and those who want to start from scratch. To those who want to fix existing images, Photoshop is a powerful tool. For example, I can add color to the poor black-and-white photo of a baby. I can apply keying, remove spots, or sharpen the colors in the photo. I can create masks and mask off new portions of the photo, and use the eraser tool to remove areas of the photo.
While it is easy enough to manually adjust the foreground color and background color of the selected area in Photoshop, you have another option. In the menu “Edit”, you can access another option “Quick Actions”.
Last of all (in our opinion) is the option in the Photoshop menu to Switch to Tool . This will switch you to a tool (like the Pencil tool), but, making it easier to then split your work into two images and merge them together.
Unfortunately, the upgrade package for Photoshop CC 2015 is quite extensive. For comparison, the current release of the software is available as a download, a Media Creation tool, an option to acquire through the Creative Cloud Desktop App, and as a subscription service.

There is also Blur & Sharpen, which work well with small image areas like the Gradient tools, and Hard Light, Soft Light, Brightness and Contrast, and Exposure tools, but they do not work with Duplicate or Move.
