i saw this: inkscape 0.2 is out and if you read the comments, you’ll notice that a lot of people (myself included) are upset that the trial version (which has about 2 years of functionality) doesn’t offer access to all of the features of the full version. in other words, they’re afraid that their work won’t be saved. i’ve been using inkscape for years, and i don’t use the trial version for a couple of reasons:

many of the features i need are trial-time only
the trial version is far easier to use than the full version
the full version has a bunch of features that i don’t use and i have no intention of using

so i installed inkscape, i’ve been using it for a few days now and i love it. i would like to use it for my own personal projects and simple web development needs (and it is free). i hope you can make a few recommendations for inkscape as well.

the first problem is easily solved. inkscape gives you the choice of paying for the full version or a license for trial. the license key is freely available on the official website, and it’s simple to find. there’s a catch though – you have to register for an account in order to unlock the full version. i’ve done this, and the software is now fully unlocked. i’d rather have to pay for something than have my work be locked to some trial period, so the trial period is no longer a problem.

so the second and third problems have been addressed. it’s harder to solve the second problem – figuring out which features of the full version you actually need. i’m quite happy with the version i have, but that’s because i use a lot of the core features. if you’re not using those features, then the inkscape trial version will probably be enough for you. i get the feeling that the inkscape team is aware of this problem and may release a version with only the features you need, which would be a big help to people like me.
